Groups

Groups can be an excellent way to focus on specific areas of development in a fun and motivating environment. They provide an opportunity for your child to learn and practice particular skills through therapist directed learning and peer interactions.

Ability Focus Occupational Therapy are continually developing group programs to meet a range of needs in the community. We also have the privilege of developing groups with other health professionals such as Speech Pathologists, Psychologists and Physiotherapists.

Our groups are designed to support the development of areas such as:

  • gross and fine motor skills
  • social skills
  • emotion regulation
  • executive functioning
  • pretend play
  • school readiness
  • feeding
  • sensory processing

To make sure your child gets the most out of their group experience, we take a child-centred approach by placing children in a junior or senior group based on their developmental age, rather than their chronological age. This is to ensure they are comfortable and confident with their peer group and the activities on offer. An approximate guide is 4-7 years (junior) and 8+ years (senior).
